Zeynep Tufekci

Board Member at Meedan

Zeynep Tufekci is a board member at Meedan. Zeynep was previously a scholar in residence at American University in Cairo, where they led a graduate-level workshop on social media translation and delivered two public lectures on social media translation and the history of translation technology. Tufekci has also been an invited member of Partners for a New Beginning, a non-partisan, non-profit organization established to harness private sector and civil society resources to advance the vision President Obama laid out in their Cairo speech in June 2009 of renewed engagement with Muslims around the world based on mutual respect and responsibility. In addition, they have served as co-chair of the United States Palestinian Partnership and as a participant in Open Translation Tools Amsterdam 2009. Tufekci is the founding executive director of The People's Opinion Project and the founder and board chair of Community School of Teton Valley.

Zeynep Tufekci completed their undergraduate degree at Carleton College, where they studied philosophy. Zeynep then attended Wayzata High School.
