Anna N. Evans graduated cum laude from Bradley University in Peoria and from Saint Louis University School of Law with a certificate in health law with honors. She became a member of the Iowa Bar in 1999 and the Illinois Bar in 2003. In 2007, she became the first general counsel for Memorial Health after previously practicing as the associate general counsel for Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield, Illinois, and health law private practice in Des Moines, Iowa, beginning in 1999.
In becoming MH’s first general counsel, she streamlined MH’s governance structure, implemented a conflict of interest policy, modernized the contract management process and developed an independent review of compensation for physicians. During her tenure with MH, Evans has led MH through multiple financing strategies related to major capital projects and through acquisitions of new physician and hospital affiliates into MH.
Evans is the senior leader responsible for the internal audit and compliance, privacy, health information management, coding, information security and risk management departments. In that capacity, she oversaw implementation of ICD-10, creation of a system-wide cybersecurity risk assessment, as well as establishment of a system-wide structure for coding and privacy for all MHS affiliates.
She is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association, the Illinois Bar Association’s Heath Care Section, Illinois Women in Leadership and the Health Care Compliance Association. She also serves as a USA/YMCA administrative official and is a member of the board of directors of the Springfield Chamber of Commerce.
