Director of Player Personnel at Memphis Grizzlies

Chris Makris enters his seventh season with the Memphis Grizzlies and his fourth as director of player personnel. Makris oversees all aspects of the Grizzlies’ player evaluation process, including preparation for the NBA draft, free agency and trade opportunities. In addition, he is an integral part of the team’s strategic process regarding salary cap and collective bargaining agreement-related decisions.

Makris previously served nine seasons as general manager of the NBA G League’s Iowa Energy. Appointed as Iowa’s GM at age 27, Makris guided the franchise to four division titles and the 2011 NBA G League championship. During his tenure, he became the NBA G League’s all-time leader for regular season wins by a general manager and the only GM in league history to guide his teams to four division crowns. Under his direction, the Energy tied a league record by qualifying for the playoffs four consecutive seasons (2008-12). The Rhinelander, Wisc. native has a seven-year-old son, Hudson. He attended Drake University, where he played quarterback on the football team.
