VP, Basketball Affairs at Memphis Grizzlies

Tayshaun Prince enters his fourth season in the Memphis Grizzlies’ front office and his second as vice president of basketball affairs after serving the previous two seasons as special advisor to the general manager. In his current role, Prince serves as a mentor for younger players on the team, consults with the team’s front office and coaching staff and assists in the scouting and evaluation of pro and college personnel.

Prince returned to Memphis in 2017 following a 14-year NBA career during which he captured the 2003-04 NBA championship as a member of the Detroit Pistons, earned four consecutive All-Defensive Second Team honors (2004-08) and helped lead the Grizzlies to the Western Conference Finals in 2013. Prince played 12 seasons in Detroit and ranks fifth in Pistons franchise history in games played (792) and 3-point field goals made (510), eighth in points (10,006) and blocks (448) and ninth in assists (2,074).

Selected 23rd overall in the 2002 NBA Draft, Prince appeared in 1,017 regular season games (902 starts) for the Pistons, Grizzlies, Boston Celtics and Minnesota Timberwolves and averaged 11.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 31.0 minutes. He enjoyed a four-year collegiate career at the University of Kentucky, where he was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Year and earned Consensus All-American Second Team honors in 2001. Prince graduated with a degree in sociology.

Prince was a member of the 2008 United States Men’s National Basketball Team, which won the gold medal in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China.
