Sergio Penkale

Sergio Penkale is a seasoned AI research engineer specializing in machine translation, currently working at Phrase since August 2023. Prior to this role, Sergio contributed as a Senior AI Research Engineer at Unbabel, focusing on enhancing the resilience of domain-adapted machine translation solutions. With extensive experience leading the machine translation team at Lingo24, Sergio developed custom machine translation engines to improve the efficiency of human translators. Previous positions include language technology specialist at Applied Language Solutions and PhD student at Dublin City University, where research centered on enhancing statistical machine translation systems. Sergio holds a PhD in Machine Translation from Dublin City University and a Licentiate and Analyst degree in Computer Science from Universidad Nacional de Córdoba.
