Derek Byrne MSc serves as the LGBT+ Domestic Violence Education Officer at Men's Aid Ireland since April 2022. In addition to this role, Derek has been part of Maynooth University as Associate Staff since September 2004, teaching Drug and Alcohol Policy in a level 8 Diploma course in Addiction Studies. As a journalist, Derek contributes regularly to the Opinion Page of The Irish Times and occasionally writes features for the Irish Times Weekender and News Section. Previous roles include Programme Development Coordinator at Active Retirement Ireland, Deputy Chair of the Board of Directors at An Síol, and playwright/producer for the Dublin Fringe Festival. Derek has also held positions as a university lecturer, tutor, and contributor in various media outlets. Derek's educational background includes a Master of Science in Drug and Alcohol Policy and a Master of Philosophy in Ethnic and Racial Studies from Trinity College Dublin, along with degrees in English and Human Development from Dublin City University.
