Manuel Cavazos serves as the Special Education Coordinator at the Merced County Office of Education since April 2019, bringing extensive experience in educational leadership. Cavazos has held the position of Principal at the Dos Palos Oro Loma Joint Unified School District since August 2010, where prior roles included 4th and 5th Grade Teacher and Reading Specialist/Math Coach. Experience also includes serving as an IHS Supervisor for Migrant Education from June 2001 to June 2008 and a 4th Grade Teacher from August 2001 to June 2007 within the same school district. Educational qualifications include a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Teacher Leadership, a Master's degree in Educational/Instructional Technology, and multiple administrative credentials, all attained through reputable institutions such as Walden University and the University of California, Irvine.

MCOE staff promotes student success by helping Merced County's 20 school districts serve more than 55,000 K-12 students of all abilities through assistance with curriculum and instruction, career and alternative education, business services, technology, special education, and teacher credentialing. MCOE will continue to focus on improving its work with school districts on behalf of students. MCOE also promotes student success through support of quality child care, preschool programs and special education services to babies and their families operated by Merced County school districts and through MCOE operated Head Start and Early Head Start programs.
