Sam Coates

Sam Coates possesses extensive experience in mechanical engineering within the motorsport industry. Currently serving as Head of Mechanical Design at Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team since January 2013, Coates has held multiple key positions, including Head of Reliability and Rear Suspension Lead Engineer. Prior roles include Senior Mechanical Design Engineer at Force India F1, where Coates led the design of active hydraulic systems, and a Mechanical Design Engineer at Spyker F1/Force India F1, focusing on fuel systems and steering mechanisms. Additionally, Coates began a career in motorsport as a Data Engineer at Jordan Grand Prix and worked as a Customer Support Engineer at Pi Research. Coates holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Oxford Brookes University.
