Carmen Sofia Arriola is a seasoned epidemiologist with extensive experience in public health and infectious diseases. Currently serving as Principal Scientist and Director of Epidemiology at Merck since September 2022, Carmen has previously held significant roles at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from 2012 to 2022, including Research Epidemiologist and Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer, focusing on influenza research and outbreak response. Carmen's expertise also includes technical support on zoonotic diseases as a Veterinary Medical Officer and academic contributions as an Assistant Professor at Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos. Carmen earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Public Health from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, where a Master of Health Science in Biostatistics was also obtained. Prior research experience includes work with The Cysticercosis Working Group.
