Marcelo R. Fernandes, Ph.D. has work experience in the renewable energy industry. Marcelo worked as a Project Engineer at Meridian Energy from 2021, where their specific roles include Renewable Energy Engineer from September 2021 to November 2022 and Project Engineer from November 2022 onwards. Prior to this, they were an Energy Technology Intern at Apex Clean Energy in 2020. During this internship, Marcelo worked on wind and solar power performance visualization and tools development using Python. Marcelo performed feature engineering on wind power data and implemented random forest and linear regression tools for estimating the Net Capacity Factor. In 2019, Marcelo worked as a Performance Analysis Summer Associate at EDP Renewables, where they automated data collection and processing for solar sites using SQL algorithms. Marcelo also created a Power BI dashboard for displaying solar performance data and assisted in revising procedures for computing inverter losses and availability.

Marcelo R. Fernandes, Ph.D. has an extensive education history in the field of Mechanical Engineering. Marcelo first pursued their Bachelor's Degree at PUC Minas from 2011 to 2016. After completing their undergraduate studies, Marcelo enrolled at Rice University, where they obtained their Master of Science (MS) in Mechanical Engineering from 2016 to 2018. Marcelo continued their education at Rice University, specializing further in Mechanical Engineering, and completed their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree from 2016 to 2021.

In addition to their academic achievements, Marcelo has also acquired additional certifications to enhance their expertise. Marcelo completed the windPRO Beginner Course at EMD International A/S in October 2021. Later on, in March 2022, Marcelo also completed the windPRO Advanced Course from the same institution. Furthermore, Marcelo obtained a certification in the Design of grid-connected PV systems from GSES Global Sustainable Energy Solutions in May 2023.
