Ali Mahdavi

Research Scientist

Ali Mahdavi is an accomplished research scientist with extensive experience in optics and photonics. Ali worked as a researcher at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg from October 2010 to December 2012, where Ali constructed an automated Ellipsometer for measuring permittivity and thickness of films. Subsequently, Ali held the position of researcher at Max Planck Society from January 2013 to March 2018, focusing on silicon photonic integrated circuits and achieving significant advancements in light extraction in devices. From April 2018 to December 2021, Ali was a project manager and development engineer at ams OSRAM, leading the development of micro-LED and VCSEL designs. Currently, Ali serves as a research scientist at Meta, where Ali is designing a world-record red micro-LED display for augmented reality glasses, optimizing optical modeling, and accelerating prototyping efforts. Ali holds an MSc and PhD in Optics/Optical Sciences from FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg and Max Planck Society, respectively, and a BSc in Physics from Sharif University of Technology.
