Allan Lao

Allan Lao is an accomplished researcher with a strong background in physics and machine learning. Allan began as a Research Assistant at the University of Science and Technology of China, where an optimization algorithm for quantum many-body systems was developed. At the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Allan contributed to the study of thermally-active nanomagnet networks through the creation of a data processing pipeline. Subsequent roles included a Senior Research Scientist and Machine Learning Engineer at Meta, focusing on messaging product machine learning and engagement growth. Currently, Allan serves as a Staff Research Scientist at Meta, following experience as a Data Scientist at Facebook and consultation for Mayhem during the Insight Data Science fellowship. Allan holds a Bachelor's Degree in Physics with a GPA of 3.85 and a PhD in Physics with a perfect GPA of 4.0 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
