Barlas Oğuz

Barlas Oğuz is a seasoned Research Scientist at Meta since January 2018, leading efforts in developing large language model ChatBots for productivity and pioneering generative AI models for 3D content in the Metaverse. Oğuz has built state-of-the-art neural retrieval and question answering systems utilized across various Facebook products and co-created PyText, an open-source NLP platform. Previously, as a Senior Data Scientist at Microsoft from November 2012 to December 2017, Oğuz developed speech and language models for Cortana and contributed to the deep learning framework CNTK. Oğuz began a career in research as a Graduate Student Researcher at UC Berkeley from August 2008 to September 2012, focusing on Long Range Dependent Models in Information Theory, earning a Ph.D.
