Derek Dunfield

Derek Dunfield is an accomplished professional with extensive experience in product management and AI research. As a Senior Product Manager at Planet Labs from 2013 to 2015, Derek successfully launched the world’s largest constellation of Earth-imaging satellites and contributed to the company's growth into a Silicon Valley "unicorn." Derek's expertise in AI was further demonstrated at Meta, where roles spanned from Product Lead at Facebook AI Research to Group Product Manager overseeing Ads Trust and Consumer Experiences, culminating in a current position as Product Manager in Foundational AI Research. Additional experience includes a Post Doctoral Fellowship at The University of British Columbia, an R&D Consultant position at Millenium Biologix Corp, and involvement in behavioral economics through a fellowship at Action Canada. Derek holds a PhD in Neuroscience and multiple degrees in Physics from The University of British Columbia and Queen's University, along with research experience at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
