Kaiming Cheng has a diverse background in computer science, particularly focusing on the security and privacy aspects of Augmented/Mixed Reality technologies. Kaiming served as a Teaching Assistant and Research Assistant at the University of Virginia from August 2017 to March 2019, followed by a role as a Research Scientist at Meta starting in June 2025. Prior to this, Kaiming was a Doctoral Researcher at the Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering from August 2020 to June 2025. In addition, Kaiming worked as an AR/VR Research Summer Associate at JPMorgan Chase & Co. in mid-2024, concentrating on security and privacy for enterprise augmented reality, and was a member of the Elasticsearch security team as a Software Engineer at Amazon Web Services in mid-2020. Kaiming holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science from the University of Washington and has earned both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Computer Science and Music from the University of Virginia.
