Maissam Barkeshli

Maissam Barkeshli is a notable physicist with extensive experience in quantum computing and related fields. Barkeshli served as a Simons Postdoctoral Fellow at Stanford University from September 2010 to August 2013 and continued postdoctoral research at Microsoft Research, Station Q, from August 2013 to August 2016. In August 2016, Barkeshli became a Fellow at the Joint Quantum Institute and has also held positions as an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor of Physics at the University of Maryland from August 2016 to June 2024. Currently, Barkeshli is a Visiting Researcher at Meta's Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) since 2025. Barkeshli holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2010) and dual Bachelor's Degrees in Physics and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley (2004).
