Michael Smedegaard

Director, Audio Technology, RL at Meta

Michael Smedegaard is currently the Director of Audio Technology for Reality Labs at Meta. Michael has also previously served as the VP Technology and Fellow at LitePoint, CEO and Founder at M17, Inc., and the Chief Audio Architect at Avnera Corporation. Michael has also been involved with AudioWatt, REF Audio, and Momentum Data Systems throughout their career.

Born in Denmark, Michael has always had a passion for music and audio technology. After completing their Masters in Electrical Engineering from the Technical University of Denmark, they started their career at Momentum Data Systems in 1999 as a HW Architect. Michael then moved to Apple Computer, Inc. in 2004 to become their Technology & Product Architect. Just two years later, they left to start their own company, AudioWatt.

In 2010, they then founded M17, Inc. with the goal of making a dent in the universe. After four successful years there, they joined LitePoint in 2014 as their VP Technology and Fellow. It was during their time at LitePoint that they helped develop a revolutionary new way to test audio transducers for Rub & Buzz using a patented method. Michael left LitePoint in 2015 to join Meta | Reality Labs as their Director of Audio Technology where they are currently employed.

Michael Smedegaard studied analog and mixed signal electronics at DTU - Technical University of Denmark, and holds a certification in organization design from LinkedIn.

Their manager is Fred Beteille, Head of Strategy, Audio. They are on a team with and Ravish Mehra - Director of Audio Research.
