Tianjun Zhang

Research Scientist

Tianjun Zhang is a Research Scientist at Meta since May 2024, focusing on scaling reinforcement learning algorithms for Llama research, particularly in the Llama3 and Llama4 reasoning models. Prior to this role, Tianjun served as a Graduate Student Researcher at the Berkeley RISE Lab from August 2018 to May 2024, under the guidance of Prof. Joseph E. Gonzalez, with research interests in reinforcement learning and large language models. Tianjun gained internship experience at Google DeepMind, contributing to projects on long-context LLM and large language model reasoning between October 2022 and September 2023. Additionally, Tianjun held a Visiting Researcher position at Facebook AI, a Summer Research Internship at Alibaba Group, co-presidency at the SJTU Student & Alumni Association, and undergraduate research roles at the University of Michigan and the Michigan China Forum. Educational credentials include a PhD in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley, a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan, and a Bachelor's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
