William Mau has a diverse range of work experience in data science and research. William is currently working as a Senior Data Scientist at Cohere Health since June 2022. Prior to this, they worked as a Data Science Consultant at MetaCell from January 2022, where they advised clients on neuroimaging best practices and designed custom analysis software. William also developed Jupyter notebooks and presented findings to stakeholders.
Before their consulting role, William served as a Miniscope Workshop Instructor and a Postdoctoral Researcher/Data Scientist at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai from August 2019 to June 2022. During this time, they acquired a federal award, produced research articles, and developed a Python analysis package. William also led team-based data science projects and engineered an automated data collection and analysis pipeline.
In addition, William gained research experience at Boston University from August 2014 to August 2019, where they worked as a Graduate Researcher/Data Scientist. William managed team-based projects, utilized naive Bayes classification for neural activity decoding, and published research articles. William also worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant during this time.
Before their graduate studies, William worked as an Undergraduate Researcher at Cornell University from September 2012 to May 2014. Their work focused on neural activity during memory recall, including investigating spatial coverage using heat maps. William received a research award and graduated with magna cum laude honors.
William's early work experiences include internships at Pfizer in 2013 and 2012. As a Comparative Medicine Intern, they launched pilot studies for evaluating nesting materials. As an Operations & Strategy Intern, they streamlined project milestone dates for cost savings within the research unit.
William also worked at Cornell University as a Laboratory Assistant and a Student Server from September 2011 to May 2012. In these roles, they assisted with lab tasks and supported food preparation and serving.
Furthermore, William volunteered as an English Teacher with the Education Association for China Tomorrow in 2011. William collaborated with a group to plan workshops and taught English to middle school students in rural areas of China.
Lastly, William gained research experience as a Research Assistant at The Mount Sinai Hospital from September 2009 to June 2011. William screened patients and coordinated study visits for a neuropathy focus group.
William Mau completed their education in a chronological order. First, they attended Hunter College High School from 2005 to 2010, where they obtained their high school diploma. William then pursued their undergraduate studies at Cornell University from 2010 to 2014, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Neurobiology and Behavior, as well as Psychology. Lastly, they attended Boston University from 2014 to 2019, where they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Neuroscience.
