Brian Thomas

Brian is the CEO and co-founder of Metagenomi. Having started the company after seeing the need for disruption in the gene therapy space, he laid out an approach for mining genomes recovered from microbiomes to develop versatile genetic engineering techniques. Prior to co-founding Metagenomi, Brian spent 20+ years in academic research at UC Berkeley and has been cited over 11,000 times, as well as being listed as an inventor on numerous patents. Brian holds both a Bachelor of Science in Cellular and Molecular Biology and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from The University of Kansas. His postdoctoral research was completed at UC Berkeley under the direction of Norman Pace.
