Julie Smithson

Julie Smithson has been involved in the XR industry since 2013. Julie started their career as the Curator of Education at the Unlimited Awesome Academy, where they documented their 9 year old daughter's journey to become an entrepreneur. In 2014, Julie became the VP of Operations at Made by Abi Inc., a company producing a shoe with a heart shaped design. In 2016, Julie co-founded MetaVRse, a universal 3D/XR creation tool and editor for Marketing, Commerce, Training and Education. In 2017, they became a member of the VR AR Association and served as a mentor for the Student Committee, co-Chair Committee Member, and 5G Committee Member. In 2018, they became the co-President of the VR AR Association - Toronto Chapter. In 2019, Julie co-founded XR Ignite Community Hub & Virtual Accelerator, where they acted as Producer of XR Collaboration and the Directory & Information website XRCollaboration.com. In 2020, they became the Host of The Polys, the WebXR Awards, and an Advisor for XR Bootcamp. Julie also co-founded XR Women, where they look forward to helping lead, inspire, empower and advocate for Women in the community of XR. Julie has also been the Owner of Star Productions Inc. since 1996, providing Day of Coordination services for parties, weddings, and intimate events.

Julie Smithson attended Sheridan College from 1993 to 1995 and obtained a Diploma in Human Services, General. Julie then attended George Brown College from 1995 to 1998 and obtained a Diploma in Hotel Management. Julie also has a certification in CMP from Life University, where they have studied for 46 years.
