Yohannes Wolday serves as the Partnerships and Social Innovation Director at Metro since February 2023, focusing on projects that promote racial equity and climate action in the greater Portland region. Previously, Yohannes held significant leadership roles at Mercy Corps, including Country Director for Kenya, where oversight of a $30M annual budget and a team of over 220 staff members was managed. Other roles at Mercy Corps involved directing global programs worth $500M and a multi-country initiative aimed at economically empowering marginalized youth. Prior to this, Yohannes was the Economic Empowerment Lead at Nike Foundation, overseeing substantial investments in adolescent girls' programming. Early career experiences included positions at Mercy Corps and the Government of Eritrea in various program management roles. Yohannes earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Anthropology from the University of Asmara.
