Hank Staggs

Hank Staggs serves as the Principal of Metro Nashville Public Schools since December 2022, and previously held the position of Director at the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching from August 2020 to December 2022. Staggs has experience as an Adjunct Professor at Vanderbilt University (August 2017 - December 2020) and at Tennessee State University (August 2002 - August 2010). A notable leader in education, Staggs worked as the Senior Director of Leadership Pipelines and Development and Director of the Governors Academy of School Leadership at the Tennessee Department of Education between August 2015 and August 2020. Prior roles include Director of Educational Leadership at Lipscomb University (August 2012 - August 2015) and Principal at Franklin Special School District (July 2005 - August 2012), along with previous educational roles at Goodpasture Christian School and Jackson Christian School. Staggs earned a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership and Administration from Tennessee State University, a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Freed-Hardeman University, and a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Freed-Hardeman University.
