Joanna Erny

Chief of Staff at Metro United Way

Joanna Erny is currently the Chief of Staff at Metro United Way. Joanna has extensive experience working in government, most recently as the Commissioner of the Kentucky state agency charged with providing economic supports, eligibility determinations for Medicaid, child and adult protection services to the citizens of the Commonwealth, including administration of the state foster care and adoption systems, and administration of an energy cost-assistance program. Joanna has also served as the Acting Director of the Department of Community Services and Revitalization for Louisville Metro Government, overseeing a department with a budget of more than $53 million dollars and approximately 300 employees (including volunteer staff). In this role, they were responsible for administering community services programs geared toward not only crises situations, but more importantly, toward achieving self-sufficiency. Joanna has a deep commitment to serving the needs of vulnerable populations and has worked tirelessly to address and eliminate the prevalence of risk factors that contribute to increased adult and child abuse or neglect and reduced family resilience and self-sufficiency.

Joanna Erny has a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Ball State University and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Louisville.

They are on a team with Alex Clark - Strategic Marketing Director, Pam Ottersbach - Director, Southern Indiana, and Sarah Santee - Senior Manager, Core Cluster. Joanna Erny reports to Adria Johnson, President & CEO.
