Director, Finance & Administration - Community Development And Metropolitan Transportation Services at Metropolitan Council of the Twin Cities

Heather Giesel has a diverse work experience spanning various organizations. Starting in 2007, they worked as an intern at the Smithsonian Institution's National Portrait Gallery. Following this, they served as a Grants and Awards Coordinator at the National Trust for Historic Preservation until 2009. In 2010, Heather became a Project Coordinator at the World Wildlife Fund. Heather then worked as a Coordinator in Corporate Giving at St. Jude Medical, Inc in 2011. Moving forward, they transitioned to the Metropolitan Council of the Twin Cities as a Transportation Grants Coordinator from 2013 to 2016. Following this, Heather joined the Minnesota Department of Education as a Grant Services Supervisor from 2016 to 2018. Currently, they hold the positions of Grants Manager and Director of Finance & Administration at the Metropolitan Council of the Twin Cities, starting in 2018 and 2023 respectively.

Heather Giesel received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History from the University of St. Thomas in 2006. Prior to that, they attended Jefferson Senior High School from 1998 to 2002. Additionally, they obtained a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification from the State of Minnesota in 2017.

Metropolitan Council of the Twin Cities

The Metropolitan Council is the regional planning organization in the seven-county Twin Cities metropolitan area. We run the regional bus and light-rail system and Northstar commuter rail, collect and treat wastewater, coordinate regional water resources, plan regional parks, and administer funds that provide housing opportunities for low- and moderate-income families. Our board is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the Governor.
