Tom Finkel

Editor in Chief at Miami New Times

Tom Finkel has been a leading voice in journalism for over two decades. Tom began their career as managing editor of Miami New Times, where they helped shape the paper into one of the most respected alt-weekly publications in the country. Tom then moved on to City Pages, where they served as editor for four years before taking the helm at Riverfront Times.

During their tenure at Village Voice Media, Finkel oversaw a period of growth and expansion for the company. Tom increased the paper's investigative reporting capabilities, which led to several high-profile stories that garnered national attention. Tom also helped launch new digital initiatives that helped increase readership and engagement.

In 2013, Finkel returned to Miami New Times as editor in chief. Tom has continued to build on the paper's strong reputation for investigative journalism, and has also expanded its coverage of arts and culture. Under their leadership, Miami New Times has won numerous awards, including the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service.

Tom Finkel has a MA in Creative Writing from Brown University and an A.B. in Philosophy from Washington University in St. Louis.
