David Guenthner

Vice President For Government Affairs at Mackinac Center for Public Policy

David Guenthner has a diverse work experience spanning several organizations and roles. David is currently Vice President for Government Affairs at the Mackinac Center for Public Policy, where they previously served as a Senior Strategist for State Affairs. Additionally, they are a Private Sector Member on the Task Force on Criminal Justice at the American Legislative Exchange Council and Co-Chairman at the Michigan Electoral College Coalition. David also serves as a Partner Advisor at the Michigan Justice Fund, a funders' collaborative dedicated to advancing justice reform in Michigan. Prior to these roles, Guenthner held various positions at the Texas Public Policy Foundation, including Senior Director for Public Affairs, Senior Communications Director, and Director of Media and Government Relations. David also served as a Governmental Relations Liaison at the Texas Workforce Commission and as President of The Guenthner Group. Early in their career, they were Managing Editor at The Lone Star Report and Executive Assistant at the Texas Risk Retention Association / Texas Association of Residential Care Communities.

David Guenthner received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science/Speech Communications from Trinity University, where they studied from 1989 to 1993. In addition to their undergraduate education, they also obtained additional certifications: the Executive Accelerator from Atlas Network in August 2020, and the Duolingo Spanish Fluency: Elementary (Estimated) certification from Duolingo in December 2015.
