Josh Sirefman has extensive work experience in the field of urban development and innovation. Josh is currently the CEO of Michigan Central Innovation District, starting from February 2022. Prior to their current role, Sirefman served as a Senior Advisor and Co-Founder at Sidewalk Labs from September 2020 to February 2022. Josh also held the positions of President and Co-Founder at Sidewalk Labs from June 2015 to July 2020, and Chief Development Officer in June 2015.
Before their tenure at Sidewalk Labs, Sirefman founded and ran Sirefman Ventures, Inc., a development services firm. As President of the company from June 2009 to June 2015, they provided executive leadership for transformative development projects, including leading Cornell University's successful bid for the creation of Cornell Tech in New York City. Sirefman also worked as a Senior Vice President at Brookfield Properties from January 2007 to June 2009.
Earlier in their career, Sirefman served as the Interim President of the New York City Economic Development Corporation from June 2006 to January 2007. Josh also worked as the Chief of Staff for the Deputy Mayor of Economic Development at the Office of Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg from May 2004 to June 2006. Sirefman held the position of Chief Operating Officer at the New York City Economic Development Corporation from January 2002 to May 2004.
Prior to their roles in government and urban development, Sirefman worked as a Principal at HR&A Advisors from January 1998 to December 2001. With a diverse range of experience and a strong focus on urban innovation, Josh Sirefman has demonstrated their expertise in driving transformative development projects and leading organizations in the field.
Josh Sirefman completed a BA in African American Studies from Wesleyan University in 1989. Josh then pursued a Master's in Urban Planning from the University of Michigan from 1994 to 1996.
