Areej Alsheikh-Hussain

Areej Alsheikh-Hussain is a seasoned bioinformatician currently serving as a Senior Production Bioinformatician at Microba since April 2018. Areej completed a PhD in Molecular Biology at The University of Queensland from 2014 to 2018, where responsibilities included tutoring in Advanced Genome Informatics. Between 2015 and 2016, Areej co-founded AirSpongeCo, a venture aimed at solving the issue of time constraints for car washing. Previous experience includes roles as a Research Engineer and Lab Manager at Masdar Institute for Science and Technology, where Areej focused on optimizing biofuel production from mangrove sediments, and a Research Assistant Intern at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, conducting studies on coral bacteria. Areej also holds a Master's in Marine Science and Engineering from KAUST and a Bachelor's in Computer Science from the University of Sharjah, complementing a diverse background in research and education.
