Stavros Volos

Stavros Volos is a Principal Researcher at Azure Research, Microsoft, where their research interests focus on the intersection of computer architecture and operating systems, emphasizing confidential computing and cloud security. Before this role, Stavros served as a Senior Researcher at Microsoft from 2015 to 2022, contributing to the development of confidential containers architecture and trusted execution environments for AI accelerators. They also held a Research Assistant position at Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) from 2010 to 2015, where they designed processor architectures and developed the widely-used CloudSuite benchmark suite. Stavros earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Computer and Communication Sciences from EPFL after obtaining a Dipl.-Ing. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens.
