Damen Cheung has extensive work experience in the field of software engineering, with a focus on embedded software. Damen's most recent role is as a Senior Embedded Software Engineer at MightyFly, a position they have held since September 2021.
Prior to this, Damen worked at Boeing for nearly two decades. From September 2018 to September 2021, Damen served as a Software Team Lead for Boeing AvionX, where they led a team responsible for a safety critical avionics component for the New Mid-market Airplane (NMA). They developed system and software requirements following DO-178C processes and also developed infrastructure and driver software for various protocols, including ARINC-429, ARINC-825 (CAN bus), and ARINC-664.
Before becoming a Team Lead, Damen held the position of Embedded Software Engineer at Boeing's Mission Systems division from January 2006 to September 2021. In this role, Damen led the integration of the MIL-STD-6016 Link-16 datalink into the Apache Longbow helicopter. They developed avionics control software for the Mission Processor using C++ and Ada with Green Hills INTEGRITY and VxWorks real-time operating systems (RTOS). Additionally, Damen developed I/O control software for the MIL-STD-1553 bus interface to aircraft avionics.
Damen's earliest work experience was as a Software Engineering Intern at CommTech Corporation (acquired by ADC Telecommunications) from June 1997 to September 1998.
Throughout their career, Damen has gained significant expertise in embedded software development, avionics systems, software testing, and adherence to industry standards and processes.
Damen Cheung started their education in 1996 at Rowan University, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering. Damen completed their undergraduate studies in 2000. Subsequently, in 2000, Damen attended the Georgia Institute of Technology, where they pursued a Master of Science degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering, which lasted until 2001. After a gap, Damen returned to pursue further education in 2007 at the W. P. Carey School of Business – Arizona State University. Damen obtained a Master of Business Administration degree, completing their studies in 2009.
