Ishijah Johnson

Ishijah Johnson is currently working as a Music Specialist at Milestones Day School & Transition Program, where they introduce musical history, genre, and function to students in grades 3-12. They strive to create a safe space for creative expression and broaden students' perspectives on music. Prior to this, they worked as the Director of Operations at BANGTOWN STUDIO ON THE GO, successfully leading fund development through grant applications. Ishijah also has experience as a Teaching Assistant at Flint School of Performing Arts, where they instructed youth in string instruments. They hold a Master of Arts in Musicology and Ethnomusicology from Boston University and a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Alma College.

Milestones Day School & Transition Program

Mission: Milestones cultivates the potential of every student and young adult by recognizing their strengths, unique needs, and learning differences. Our goal is to ensure that each individual reaches their highest level of success by connecting them to new learning opportunities that help achieve greater independence, foster self-confidence, and create meaningful relationships at school and beyond. Milestones is an approved and accredited private school (Chapter 766) offering a unique and intensive year-round academic and therapeutic programming in a state of the art building. Our students, age 5-22, are highly supported by a full clinical and academic staff working on multidisciplinary team of Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists, Board Certified Behavior Analysts, Principals, Mentor Teachers, Reading and Math Specialists, and Directors. We have a low student to staff ratio and our population consists primarily of students with diagnoses on the Autism Spectrum, Learning Disabilities, Attention Deficit Disorder, and Anxiety Disorders. We provide education at the elementary, middle, high school, and post high school level.
