Elizabeth Kaufman currently serves as the Superintendent of Mill Valley School District since July 2023. Previously, Elizabeth held various positions within Sonoma Valley Unified School District, including Acting Superintendent and Associate Superintendent of Educational Services from July 2018 to July 2023. Additional experience includes serving as Superintendent for Galt Joint Union High School District (2015-2018), Assistant Superintendent at Cotati-Rohnert Park Unified School District (2011-2015), and roles in educational consulting and program management through organizations such as Consortium on Reaching Excellence in Education (CORE) and Educational Consultants LLC. Elizabeth's educational background includes a Doctor of Education in Organizational Development and Leadership from the University of San Francisco, a Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction from Dominican University, and various other certifications and degrees related to educational administration and leadership.

The Mill Valley School District is located 8 miles north of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge in Marin County, California. The district has 5 elementary schools and 1 middle school with an enrollment of approximately 3,250 students in grades K through 8. Four of the schools are located within the City of Mill Valley, while two are located in the adjacent unincorporated areas of Strawberry Point and Tamalpais Valley. The District also includes the unincorporated communities of Alto, Almonte, Homestead Valley, and Muir Beach. The community has been rated as one of the top 20 best small towns in America by Smithsonian magazine.
