Shawn Franklin

Shawn Franklin has extensive work experience in the field of IT and engineering. Shawn currently holds the position of Sr. Director of Engineering & IT at MIND Research Institute, a role they have been in since September 2022. Prior to this, they worked as the Director of Engineering & IT at the same company from February 2017 to September 2022, and as the Director of IT from January 2014 to February 2017.

Before joining MIND Research Institute, Shawn worked as the Network Operations Manager at the University of Nevada Reno from December 2011 to January 2014. In this role, they were responsible for building team communications, managing a team of 7 members, and overseeing the design, implementation, upgrade, and maintenance of the university's network.

From June 2010 to April 2011, Shawn worked as the Director, Systems & MIS at TH(i)NQ Ed formerly SchoolCenter. In this role, they established a team culture focused on customer service, improved redundancies and failovers, and improved efficiencies and processes. Their team managed two data centers and multiple servers to support 80 employees and over 800 customers in a SaaS environment.

Prior to that, Shawn served as the Director of IT at the Nevada Department of Education from 2005 to 2010. In this position, they led a team of 18 staff members and was responsible for supporting all IT systems functions for the department and state information system. Shawn also led numerous software development efforts and successfully delivered quality solutions on time and within budget.

Shawn's earlier experience includes working as a Sr. Engineering Analyst and Sr. Technical Support Engineer at PowerSchool, a division of Apple Computer, from 2002 to 2005. Shawn worked closely with customers on advanced technical issues and was responsible for documenting requirements, researching and testing resolution options, and working with development teams.

Lastly, Shawn's career began at Lyon County School District, where they served as the IT Director and Teacher. Shawn built the district's entire IT department, managing a team of 4 full-time and 16 part-time staff members. Shawn also planned, installed, implemented, and maintained the PowerSchool student information system.

Shawn Franklin obtained a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education Business/Computers from Black Hills State University in 1992. Shawn later pursued further education and earned a Master's degree in Management Information Systems and Services from the University of Nevada, Reno between 2012 and 2014. Prior to that, they completed a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Computer Programming from Black Hills State University from 1983 to 1988. Additionally, Shawn attended Torrington High School for an unknown period with no specified degree or field of study. In recent years, they have been updating their knowledge and skills in software development and IT, attending Sierra College in 2021-2022 and Irvine Valley College in 2016-2017.
