Susan Keenan has extensive experience in policy advising and management roles within various government ministries, primarily focusing on agriculture, forestry, and primary industries. Currently serving as Principal Advisor at the Ministry for Primary Industries since June 2015, Susan supports the response to adverse events and promotes rural community resilience. Previous roles include Team Manager Welfare during the Mycoplasma bovis outbreak, and significant positions at the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, New Zealand Customs Service, and Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, where major projects included the National Animal Identification and Tracing policy and the Joint Border Management System. Susan holds a BSc in Forestry (Honours) from the University of Canterbury and has a foundational background in forestry from early career experiences with the New Zealand Forest Service.
