Sigrid Rajalo has extensive experience in various roles related to innovation policy and economic development. Sigrid began their career in 2001 working as an editor, editor-in-chief, and reporter for various newspapers and radio stations. In 2008, they joined the University of Tartu as the Editor in Chief of the Marketing and Communication Office, where they were responsible for redesigning the university's newspaper into a monthly magazine.
In 2013, Sigrid Rajalo transitioned to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications for Estonia, where they held several positions. Sigrid started as an Executive Officer at the Innovation Policy Unit, where they designed and implemented Estonia's first demand side innovation policy instrument. Sigrid also played a key role in managing Estonia's accession to the European Space Agency and redesigning the innovation and development voucher scheme.
From 2016 to 2018, they served as the Head of the Innovation Policy Unit, responsible for the development and management of various innovation policies and instruments. In 2018, they became a Strategy Advisor to the Economic Development Department, and in 2021, they were promoted to Head of Innovation Policy, where they focused on creating an environment that nurtures innovative companies.
In addition to their work in the public sector, Sigrid Rajalo has also served as a member of the supervisory boards for Tallinn Science Park Tehnopol and Tartu Science Park, where they contributed to the fostering of technology-based entrepreneurship and the support of start-up companies.
Sigrid is currently a Guest Lecturer at the University of Tartu and will begin their role in 2023. Overall, Sigrid Rajalo's work experience demonstrates their expertise in innovation policy, economic development, and fostering entrepreneurial ecosystems.
Sigrid Rajalo completed their Master's degree in Communication and Media Studies at the University of Tartu from 2005 to 2010. Currently, they are pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Business Administration and Management, General at the University of Tartu, with an expected completion year in 2023.
