Ministry of Energy-Power Division, Government of Pakistan

The Power Division was created in August 2017 after splitting the Ministry of Water and Power. The Water Division became part of the new Ministry of Water Resources, and the Power Division moved under the newly formed Ministry of Energy, which includes two parts: Power Division and Petroleum Division. The Power Division manages electricity-related matters like generation, transmission, distribution, and policies. It oversees 22 public sector companies and 2 statutory bodies. Various wings handle operations, finance, development, HR, law, and coordination. To meet Pakistan’s energy needs, the division focuses on increasing power generation through renewable energy, coal, thermal, and hydel resources. This helps make the country energy-sufficient, boosts economic growth, and addresses power sector issues. Independent Power Producers (IPPs) also play a key role. The government is working to ensure reliable electricity to support economic activities.
