Head Of Hybrid Threats And Economic Security Taskforce at Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken

Daniël Kooij has extensive work experience in various roles related to international affairs and economic security. Daniël started their career in 2003 as a Lecturer of European Law at Radboud University Nijmegen. From 2004 to 2005, they worked as an Adviser at the Council of the European Union. In 2005, they joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Netherlands, where they held several positions including Policy Officer, Second Secretary, and First Secretary, focusing on political affairs and migration affairs. Daniël also served as the Policy Officer at the UN Department and the European Correspondent's Office. In 2008, they worked as a Second Secretary Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 2010 to 2011, they were the Policy Officer at the Political and Legal Affairs Division, UN Department. In 2012, they worked as the First Secretary at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Kinshasa, DRC. In 2013, they served as the Rule of Law Advisor at ISAF and as the First Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Netherlands. Daniël also worked as the Legationsrat I. (LR I - secondment) at the Afghanistan-Pakistan Taskforce in 2013. From 2014 to 2017, they held the position of Deputy Head Political Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 2017 to 2022, they served as the Counsellor EU and Economic Affairs. Currently, they hold the position of Head of Hybrid Threats and Economic Security Taskforce at the Ministry of Buitenlandse Zaken. Additionally, in 2018, they worked as an Auditeur Cycle des hautes études pour le développement économique (CHEDE) at the Ministère de l’Économie, des Finances et de la Relance.

Daniël Kooij's education history includes a basisopleiding in Beleidsmedewerker Buitenlandse Zaken from Leiden University in 2005. In 2004, they studied UN and International Relations at the United Nations University in Tokyo. From 2002 to 2003, they undertook studies in International Relations at the Clingendael Institute in The Hague. Daniël obtained a MA in Law specializing in Civil Law and European and International Law from Leiden University between 1997 and 2002. In 1999 to 2000, they studied Political Science and International Relations at Sciences Po. Currently, they are pursuing a Certificate in Organizational Leadership from HEC Paris, which started in 2021.
