Eric Strating

Eric Strating is an experienced diplomat currently serving as the Consul General to Chicago at the Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken since August 2013. Strating has held various ambassadorial roles, including Ambassador of the Netherlands to Cuba, Jamaica, Iraq, and Libya, as well as positions such as Chargé d’Affaires at the Netherlands Embassy in Baghdad and Project Manager for the Middle East, focusing on bilateral relations with countries in the region. Prior experience includes serving as the Director of Security, Crisis Management, and Integrity, and as a Team Manager at the Ministerie van Binnenlandse Zaken en Koninkrijksrelaties. Strating's earlier career involved significant roles at the Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken, including Counsellor in Canberra, Deputy Head of Security and Defense Policy, and First Trade Secretary in Beijing. Educational qualifications include a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from the University of Arkansas School of Law and a Master Degree in Dutch Law from the University of Groningen.
