Erlijne Wissels

Erlijne Wissels is an experienced diplomat currently serving as the Head of the Western Europe Department and Coordinating Policy Advisor at the Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken since September 2018, focusing on EU economic and financial policy. Previous roles include First Secretary for Political Affairs at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in France, where responsibilities included foreign policy related to the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Latin America, as well as public diplomacy on human rights. Additionally, Erlijne served as a Second Secretary at the Royal Netherlands Embassy in Beijing, handling issues of corporate social responsibility and the financial sector. Prior experience includes positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where Erlijne worked on international financial institutions and the United Nations, and at the Ministry of Finance, coordinating Ecofin Council efforts. Erlijne's educational background includes a Bologna Diploma in Economics and European Studies from Johns Hopkins SAIS and a Doctoraal in Economic & Social History from Leiden University.
