Marit Pater is a seasoned diplomat currently serving as First Secretary at the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Geneva since August 2019. Prior to this role, Marit held the position of First Secretary at the Netherlands Embassy in Addis Ababa and served as Second Secretary at the Netherlands Embassy in Tehran. Marit gained valuable experience as a Policy Officer focusing on the Great Lakes Region, specifically Burundi, and participated in a diplomatic training program designed to prepare policy officers for careers in diplomacy. Marit's earlier positions included Junior Policy Officer in the Social Development Department and internships with various organizations, including UNHCR and Amref Flying Doctors. Marit holds a Master of Arts in Conflict Studies and Human Rights from Universiteit Utrecht, an Advanced Master in International Development from Radboud University, and a Master of Arts in Human Rights and Democratization from the Global Campus of Human Rights.
