Hugo Brauwers has an extensive career in diplomacy and international relations, currently serving as Deputy Director General for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid and Ambassador of Belgium to Sweden and Latvia at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Belgium since October 2014. Previous roles include Director of Human Rights, Humanitarian Affairs and Democratisation and Deputy Director for Political-Military and Strategic Affairs, focusing on European Security and Defense Policy coordination. Brauwers has also held positions as Diplomatic Counselor and Deputy Chief of Staff at various governmental levels, as well as Consul General and Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva. Educational qualifications include a Master's degree in Law from the University of Antwerp and further studies in Political Science, Sociology, and International Humanitarian Law at prominent institutions.
