Hugues Chantry

Hugues Chantry is an experienced diplomat currently serving as Ambassador to the Republics of Uganda and South Sudan at the SPF Affaires étrangères, Commerce extérieur et Coopération au Développement since September 1997. Previous roles within the same organization include Ambassador of Belgium to Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, as well as to Ethiopia, Djibouti, and the African Union. Hugues also held positions such as desk officer for the Democratic Republic of Congo and for Rwanda-Burundi, Consul General of Belgium, and political advisor. Additionally, Hugues served as Acting Director General and Director General at the EGMONT - Royal Institute for International Relations from April 2020 to October 2022, and worked as a commercial advisor at Banque J. Van Breda & C° NV from 1994 to 1997. Hugues's educational background includes a Licence in Economics from KU Leuven and studies in translation and German from UMONS and Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt.
