Deputy Director - International Law And Human Rights at Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark

Signe Dam has a diverse and extensive work experience history. Signe began their career in 2007 as a Student Assistant at The Royal Library, where they worked in the Department for Social Sciences and Law until 2008. In the same year, they became a Paralegal and later a Legal Intern at Statsadvokaten for København & Bornholm, where they worked until 2011.

In 2011, Signe joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Denmark as a Student Assistant in the International Law Department. Signe stayed in this position until 2012.

Signe then joined the Permanent Mission of Denmark to the United Nations in 2013 as an Assistant Attaché in the International Law and Human Rights department. Signe worked in this role until July 2013.

From 2013 to 2021, Signe has held various positions at Udenrigsministeriet (Ministry of Foreign Affairs). Signe started as Head of Section in the International Law Department in November 2013 and continued until March 2014. Next, they became Head of Section in the Stabilization and Security Policy department, focusing on the Danish approach to fragile states and stabilizations. From August 2015 to December 2015, they worked as Head of Section in the Human Rights Department.

In January 2016, Signe joined the Permanent Mission of Denmark to the United Nations as First Secretary until December 2018.

From January 2019 to June 2019, Signe worked as Private Secretary to the Minister for Fisheries, Equal Opportunities, and Nordic Cooperation. From June 2019 to September 2021, they took on the role of Private Secretary to the Minister for Development Cooperation. Currently, they are serving as the Deputy Director for International Law and Human Rights at Udenrigsministeriet.

Signe Dam has a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree in Law from Københavns Universitet - University of Copenhagen, which they obtained from 2006 to 2009. Signe later pursued a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Law from the same university, completing their studies from 2009 to 2014. In addition, Signe completed a Master of Excellence, Elite Master program in MSc in International Law, Economics and Management jointly offered by University of Copenhagen and Copenhagen Business School from 2010 to 2012. Signe also briefly studied Law at the University of San Diego School of Law in 2010.
