Renee Smith

Renee Smith is an experienced leader in the New Zealand public sector with a strong background in justice and recovery services. Currently serving as the Director of the Chief District Court Judges’ Chambers at the Ministry of Justice since July 2020, Renee has held various strategic and management roles across multiple organizations, including Director positions at both the Waitangi Tribunal Unit and the Māori Land Court, and diverse managerial roles at the Ministry of Justice, spanning from 2010 to 2018. Prior experience includes managerial roles at the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority, a grants specialist position at the Embassy of the United States of America, and project management at THS & Associates Ltd. Renee holds a Bachelor of Social Science in Anthropology from The University of Waikato, completed in 2004.
