Gihan Amarasiriwardena

Co-Founder & President at Ministry of Supply

Gihan Amarasiriwardena has extensive work experience in a variety of fields. Gihan began their career in 2004 as Co-Founder of Ascendure Mountain Technologies, an outdoor apparel and equipment company. In 2008, they worked as an Undergraduate Researcher in the MIT Department of Chemical Engineering- Prather Group, where they developed a metabolic pathway for n-butanol and 2-3 pentanediol production in E. coli for the use as an alternative fuel. In 2009, they were a Lemelson-MIT Fellow at The Lemelson Foundation, where they conducted due diligence reviews on nominees for the $500,000 Lemelson-MIT Prize and $100,000 Lemelson-MIT Sustainability Award. Gihan also worked as a Research and Design Engineer at Loughborough University and a Product Design Consultant at Progressive Sports Technologies. In 2010, they became Co-Founder and President of Ministry of Supply and later Co-Founder and CEO. In 2011, they worked as a Product Design Intern at IDEO. In 2019, they became an Associate Member of the MIT Corporation Development Committee and in 2020, they joined Climate Neutral as a Board Member.

Gihan Amarasiriwardena attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 2007 to 2011, where they earned a S.B. in Chemical and Biological Engineering.
