Cathy Abene

Cathy Abene, P.E. is a seasoned engineering professional with significant experience in civil engineering and management. Currently serving as a Park Board Commissioner for the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board since January 2022, Cathy was elected to represent Minneapolis Park District 6. As Principal Civil Engineer at the University of Minnesota since January 2008, Cathy leads a team responsible for managing the campus's water, wastewater, and stormwater utility systems, while ensuring compliance with various environmental regulations. Previous roles include Manager in the Transportation Department for the City of Seattle, where leadership was provided to a large division focused on right-of-way permits, and Professional Engineer in the Transportation Department at Hennepin County, specializing in road and bridge operations. Earlier experience includes working as a Regional Engineer at Hanson (HeidelbergCement Group), focusing on product design across multiple states. Cathy holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree from the University of Minnesota.
