Kathleen Thomas

Member Historic Resources Advisory Committee (hrac) at Minnesota Historical Society

Kathleen Thomas has extensive work experience in the field of inclusive histories and intercultural development. Kathleen currently conducts research and teaches inclusive histories starting from January 2022. Kathleen also holds the position of a Gale Family Library Legacy Research Fellow at the Minnesota Historical Society since May 2023. Kathleen has served as a member of the Afton Heritage Preservation Commission at the City of Afton since March 2023. Additionally, Kathleen is a board member of the Afton Historical Society and Museum, where they contribute to the establishment and dissemination of historical information. Prior to these roles, Kathleen held positions as a Director at Kani Intercultural Development Consulting and as a Co-founder and co-director, consultant at LeaderSHIFTin, LLC. Kathleen has also worked at the University of Wisconsin-Stout, Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe Community College, the University of Wisconsin System, and Metropolitan State University in various teaching and leadership roles.

Kathleen Thomas has a Bachelor's Degree in Public Policy Analysis and Sociology, which they obtained from Michigan State University between 1978 and 1983. Afterwards, they pursued further education and earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from the University of Minnesota from 1996 to 2005. Kathleen'sPh.D. focused on U.S. History, Gender, Race, and Ethnicity Studies. In 2007, Kathleen completed the U.S. Military History Instructor's Course (MHIC) and received a certificate in Military History. More recently, from 2016 to 2032, they attended the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) and became a Qualified Administrator, specializing in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI).
