Pam McClanahan

Editorial Manager, Journal & Digital Publishing at Minnesota Historical Society

Pam McClanahan has extensive work experience in various roles related to content development, publishing, and strategic communications. Pam began their career at West Publishing Company in 1983 as a Senior Production Editor before moving on to work as a Managing Editor at Fortress Press / Augsburg Fortress Publishers from 1990 to 1998, where they supervised a staff of six and oversaw the production of over 100 books annually.

In 1998, Pam joined the University of St. Thomas as a Managing Editor, where they stayed until 2001. Pam then joined the Minnesota Historical Society (MNHS) and held multiple roles, including Director of Content Strategy and Development from 2001 to 2016. In this position, they directed a team and collaborated with community advisors, leading research and staff presentations while developing content initiatives and policy. Pam also served as the Publisher and Acquisitions Editor for MNHS Press, overseeing the publication of books, a digital e-book program, a peer-reviewed history journal, and the state digital encyclopedia.

From 2016 to 2021, Pam worked as the Director of Partnership Development at TPT - Twin Cities PBS, where they collaborated with nonprofit, government, and higher education partners to produce award-winning multimedia content. Pam also acted as a senior lead for various partnerships in areas such as history, Native American arts and culture, nature and the environment, and veteran affairs. Their responsibilities included revenue generation and program sustainability through a strategic partnership business model.

More recently, in 2021, Pam joined the Minnesota Humanities Center as the Director of Strategic Communications, where they focused on directing and overseeing strategic communication initiatives.

Currently, Pam is working at the Minnesota Historical Society as the Interim Editor of the Minnesota History journal through MNHS Press.

Pam McClanahan holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree from Winona State University, where they studied English and Economics. Pam also completed a Certificate in Publishing from Yale University in 2012. The specific dates of their education and the month/year they obtained the certificate are not provided.
