Karen Colum currently serves as the Department Chair and Assistant Professor at Minnesota State University, Mankato, focusing on the elementary teacher preparation program with a specialization in mathematics methods and STEM methods since August 2011. Prior to this role, Karen spent nearly a decade at Ponca City Public Schools from August 2002 to July 2011, where responsibilities included serving as an Instructional Coach and Elementary Teacher. Karen's academic credentials include a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in STEM Education with a focus on mathematics from the University of Minnesota (2012-2016), a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Mathematics Teacher Education from The University of Texas at Arlington (2009-2011), and a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Elementary Education and Teaching from Oklahoma State University (1999-2002).
